Is it dream, is it reality, or is it fiction born out of imagination, Renoir is a film about the broken memories of coming of age and a time when the notion of death is also “coming of age” in Japan as western culture was getting into Japan with the globalisation, while the same is happening to other traditional ideas such as love, family etc. It is much closer to YiYi than the usual more personal coming of age tales.
