To my understanding, the final battle is like the battle between the two losers, one loser country and one loser player, and that makes the present of the American soldiers, without further explanation, weird. And while Marty does have some of the charming qualities of a typical Safdie character, I do wonder if this film can still be considered a social critique through this character study, because I don’t think it is still the systematic oppression that leads to this.
