How are narratives constructed? That is the central question of Dracula, Radu Jude’s latest and most provocative film. By reimagining the Romanian cultural figure in an intentionally strange and disturbing way, Jude builds a multi-layered work structured around a film director consulting AI on how to write a film about Dracula. What unfolds is less an exercise in adaptation than a reflection on authorship itself.
Rather than offering answers, Jude turns the process into a provocation. If AI can convincingly mimic the ways we construct narrative, the film asks, can it also erode our capacity to dream, to imagine, and to love through stories?
